Practice Piano: Motivational Video

Watch this 3 minute practice piano motivation video now

I just left the practice room about 5 hours ago and I was just on a 6 mile hike.

I love to exercise and get some hiking in right after I leave the practice room. There’s something about getting the body going, getting that mind going, and getting that blood flowing that helps lock in all the lessons afterwards.

So, as I was on this 6 mile hike I realized as I was going through it and it started to get a little bit rocky and the inclines were really intense at one point.

I realized that this is actually very similar to what we experience as piano players as we are sitting down and working on our skills every day and trying to get better at this art form.

How do we get good at piano right?

practice pianoWell, one of the things that gave me confidence during the hard sections of this hike was that I had seen a map of the trail beforehand.

And this is a direct parallel to what we can do to build our piano confidence when we sit down and practice.

I knew it was 6 miles long and I knew about 3 miles in is where the incline is going to start right…

It’s going to start getting kinda crazy. I might be out of breath, the road below is going to get a little shaky. There’s going to be rocks out and all sorts of obstacles will be there but that’s OK.

DON’T PANIC!

It’s only going to be there for about a mile or so and then right afterwards the views are just absolutely beautiful and amazing.

The rewards of going through this challenging period were so sweet.

So, what we can do as piano players is we can build our own map.

We need to make sure that we have a map in place so we feel confident at all times and confident in our piano journey.

How do we build a map for ourselves for when times get a little bit tough in the practice room so we still feel confident, we feel good, and we are never really worried…

We know where we’re going and we can really enjoy the ride!

How To Build Your Practice Piano Map!

practice pianoWell, an easy way to build a map for yourself is simply ask yourself a question.

Where do you want to be 3 months from now with your piano skills?

Maybe you want to learn your jazz scales in all 12 keys.

Perhaps you want to learn 10 new jazz piano chords.

Maybe you want to learn a tune a month, maybe you want to play your first gig, or maybe it’s just that you want to practice piano every day…

Regardless of the aspiration, those are very clear goals and that is really in essence building a map for yourself.

You know exactly where you want to be and where you’re going to end up.

And that’s really going to give you the confidence, where if one day lets say 2 months into your 3 months you have a practice session where you’re hitting more wrong notes that you wanted too.

Or you’re feeling a little discouraged or you’re feeling a little bit tired.

Because you have the vision, because you have the map in place of where you want to go you don’t worry about the little stuff along the way.

You have the plan so there’s no need to worry about those little inclines where you’re getting “out of breath right.”

This is what we want to do for ourselves.

Build a map for yourself, get clear on what you want to do and I promise you amazing things this will happen when you build out that clarity for yourself.

practice pianoSo again, the more you put into this art form the more it will give back to you.

Keep working hard, stay motivated, stay hungry this is an amazing journey.

And the (views) once you get to the end and you continue to get through everything even when it gets a little bit hard are just absolutely spectacular.

The reward is worth it.

Alright, stay hungry keep practicing thank you for watching and stay tuned for our next practice piano pointer coming soon.
